The Hario Slims and Skertons are great grinders, but if they are the the Toyota of hand grinders, then the Porlex grinders are the Infinitis.

This grinder has ceramic burrs and a stainless steel housing, which not only makes it easy to clean, but more resilient than glass versions, and produces less static than plastic versions. The conical ceramic burrs don’t rust, are easy to clean and stay sharper for much longer than steel burrs.

The Porlex Tall has double the capacity of the Porlex Mini, so you can grind enough for you and your friend.

From our testing, it copes well with everything you can throw at it - from Turkish to French Press grind setting - and thanks to a easily accessible locking nut, is really easy to adjust.

But the thing that really sets this apart from other hand grinders is the speed and ease of grind. This is down to a couple of features: a long steel handle that connects solidly to the grinder and the ability to hold the grinder steadily in one hand while turning the handle with the other.

Have an Aeropress and like to have fresh ground, amazing coffee when you travel? This lovely little industrial looking grinder fits perfectly inside the Aeropress tube.

  • Stainless steel tube housing: 185mm tall and 49mm in diameter without handle
  • Hopper capacity of 44g whole bean
  • Ceramic conical burrs
  • Locking nut for grind adjustment
  • Stainless steel handle approx. 6” long
  • Hopper lid
  • Instructions & packaging in Japanese - but with some great schematics!
  1. Set grind level via locking nut
  2. Connect hopper to grind collector
  3. Remove lid
  4. Put beans into hopper (44g max)
  5. Replace lid and attach handle
  6. Hold grinder in one hand and turn handle with the other

5 Stars Perfect for the minimalist by KM from Inuvik, NT on Jan 11, 2014
"I love this grinder. It has everything you need for fine control of perfectly ground beans and nothing more. The only thing it doesn't have is an electric motor - which is this grinder's greatest advantage. It's handsome, well built, and doesn't take up any room in the kitchen. Easy to crank, doesn't wake up any late sleepers, and gets the blood moving before you put the coffee on. I wish I had bought one of these years ago. Well recommended! Buying from Eight Ounce Coffee in Canada meant fast shipping and no waiting or uncertainty with customs delays, import fees, etc. "

5 Stars Excellent Product by Craig from Edmonton, AB on Jan 4, 2014
"Very happy with my order. Placed it on Wednesday, arrived on Friday. Obviously has something to do with proximity to their location but credit is due to how fast they must have prepped for shipping. So far I love it. Very even grind and no sign of slipping handle. "

5 Stars Porlex by Brendan Bell from Cambridge, ON on Feb 18, 2013
"I recently ordered a Porlex Tall hand grinder from you. It arrived on Friday morning. I just wanted to let you know that I am currently making the best coffee of my life! I was about to order it from Orphan Espresso in the States but they were closed for the week. I had no idea you guys existed, but I'm glad I found you. Your price was $10 lower than what I found on Amazon, I avoided international shipping/taxes/duty etc., and it probably got here faster (5 business days). I'm also always eager to support a Canadian company so I was really happy to find your website. Thanks for the great service! Now if I could just stop making espresso and sleep..."

5 Stars All the grind that a man needs to find by a member from Calgary on Feb 7, 2013
"Like a righteous blessed sword, i have wielded this fierce yet versatile weapon on many road trips. With each turn of the handle i get closer to my cup of perfect brew.I start to salivate and shake a little bit in anticipation, when the aroma of the wonderfully consistent grinds gently flow into my nostrils. The cup of coffee that this grinder participates in producing is glorious. I have had a lot of fun with the Porlex, it is portable, durable, consistent and sexy. I had the slim hario before this and now... well lets just say... I'm very satisfied. "
